The installation of the exhibit was a multi-step process. Decisions that were made in working groups, and worked out on paper, then had to be transferred to the rooms and walls of the museum.* Working alongside the students were the Exhibit Preparator and the Museum Conservator. As their titles suggest, these are the museum professionals in charge of setting up exhibits in the museum and taking care of the artifacts. While there were artifacts included in the exhibit that were of modern origin, many of the items were thousands of years old. These were the artifacts that were handled, literally, with gloves. As the opening day approached, students and professionals spent days and nights painting the walls, placing artifacts, and hanging the entrance sign. Another aspect of the exhibit was the original artwork created by artists enrolled in the School of Art. For a look at the process of the painting of the decorative friezes, look at the "Painting the Frieze" slide show. * Please note: some of the scenes of students in the Kelsey Museum's clean room were re-enactments. |
