One of the main attractions of this work is its woodcuts illustrations, which are hand-colored in our copy. Each book is introduced by a fullpage woodcut depicting doctors, scholars, and apothecaries in different naturalistic settings. There are around 1,100 column-wide illustrations of herbs, plants, animals, and people engaged in various activities, such as preparing medical substances. The illustrations themselves are highly stylized, often departing from reality.
