Anubis amulet

Anubis amulet Faience 44 x 20 x 8 mm 7th–1st c. BC Fayum, Egypt David Askren, 1925. KM 23431

Amulets of the god Anubis in the form of a human body and jackal head were fairly common in the Late and Ptolemaic periods. This example represents Anubis striding, wearing the kilt that was distinctive of male deities. These amulets could be worn by people in daily life or placed on mummies for protection in the afterlife.
