This hand-crafted black bracelet belongs to a quite common type of jewelry in Roman Egypt. Glass was often used in the making of jewelry in this area since Egypt had an abundance of sand, the primary ingredient in glass. This particular example has some decoration on its exterior and is now (and perhaps deliberately) slightly misshapen. Although the bracelet is a simple one, with no precious metals employed in its decoration, it still shows some fine craftsmanship. Yet it is not a bracelet that a wealthy woman would wear or would be buried with.
**Please note: this "assemblage" was created solely for educational purposes. While all of the objects discussed here were excavated at the site of Terenouthis, it must be emphasized that they were not found in a single tomb. A full explanation of this class project is found on the introductory page for this website.
