Bells are found throughout the ancient world. Most are made of bronze, but they vary widely in shape and size, and the uses of these bells were equally varied. Bells could be used for religious rituals and for festival music. Most ancient bells, however, were probably used in everyday life for the less musical purposes of summoning or warning.
