As restored, the Latin inscription on the gate reads:

C. IVL. ASP(ER) PANSINI[AN]VS
II VIR V TRIB(VNUS MILITVM)
LEG I PRAEF AL(AE) …
D(E) S(VA) P(ECVNIA) F(ECIT) ET ORNAVIT

 Gaius Julius Asper Pansinianus, duovir (mayor) for the fifth time Military tribune of the first legion, prefect of the foreign cavalry … [here a stone is missing] from his own money constructed and ornamented (this gate) .
