THE SITE AND THE CITY: THEN AND NOW
Hundreds of images in the Kelsey Museum’s archive record the town
of Yalvaç and its people, many of whom worked for Michigan’s
project in 1924. The group of graduate students and faculty who prepared
this exhibition went to Pisidian Antioch in 2004 with the aim of updating
and furthering research on the ancient city. Photographs taken in 2004
of the ancient site and of modern Yalvaç show how both cities have
changed in the intervening 80 years. Some things, however, have not changed.
One of the most popular destinations in Yalvaç today—a teahouse
under an ancient sycamore tree—was also a favorite retreat in 1924.
