When these pieces were accessioned by the Kelsey Museum, they were labeled 'culinary mixing bowls'. Yet one may speculate they have much more significance. The lamb symbols imprinted here may be evidence of the spread of Christianity into Egypt, invoking the 'lamb of god' imagery used by early Christians.
