Bird-shaped Jug
Mid 4th-early 3rd century BC
Teano, Italy
This colorful bird-shaped jug was more than just a decorative object. In its hollow belly the bird held liquids (such as oil), which would be poured out through holes in its beak. The jug may also have been used to feed infants or small children, letting them drink milk or water from an amusing 'baby bottle'.
