Narrow-necked pot
3rd-4th century AD
Karanis, Egypt
These three pots were found together in a Karanis kitchen. The two larger pots were most likely used for boiling foodstuffs (perhaps meat on special occasions), while the narrow neck of the third pot made it suitable for storing liquids (such as olive oil) or more powdery substances, such as incense or spices.
