Anubis, Chnoubis, Isis, Khnum, Nephthys, Ouroborus, cupping vessel In Greek Hematite, black 20 x 18 x 3 mm 1st–5th c. AD Egypt Maurice Nahman. KM 26067

The obverse shows the familiar elements of uterine amulets: Ouroboros, the cupping vessel, and a series of deities. Facing right, the mummy Anubis holds a scepter; a goddess faces him with a raised hand in the gesture of greeting. On the far left, we see Isis wearing a crown; on the far right is Nephthys with her name in hieroglyphs on her head. The two goddesses have winged arms raised in a protective fashion. By the uterus, or cupping vessel, the ram-headed Khnum sits on a throne, his head crowned with a solar disk, and his right hand holding the handle of the key. Around the edge is the magic formula.
