Pseudo-Galen Asrār al-nisāʼ In Arabic 1492 Manuscript codex on Persianate paper 183 x 130 mm Isl. Ms. 1058

This slender volume contains a fairly rare manuscript copy of Asrār al-nisāʼ (“Secrets of Women”), a work of materia medica (pharmacology) attributed to Galen but most likely not actually authored by him. The text offers recipes of medicines for numerous sexual and cosmetic concerns, including inciting or diminishing lust toward women or men, firming or weakening the hymen, and promoting or preventing growth of hair on certain areas of the body.
